The Skin CommandmentsSonia Kashuk, celebrity makeup artist to many stars, including Cindy Crawford, lists her 10 commandments for great skin.
- Protect yourself from the sun — use sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight between the hours of 10 and 2.
- Don’t — I repeat — don’tsmoke. Your skin is a large organ and it needs a lot of circulation. Smoking impairs that dramatically. That’s why smokers’ skin looks dull and gray. Instead of having oxy-generated blood delivered to the surface of the skin, they’re getting poisons and oxidants.
- Get adequate rest and nutrition.
- Protect yourself from stress — both emotional and environmental stress.
- Wash your face twice a day and put on the proper treatment product. I’m amazed when women tell me they don’t wash their face in the morning. A lot of icky stuff collects overnight — dead skin cells, dirt, and dust!
- Don’t neglect certain areas of the skin. Elbows, heels, neck, and decolletage need moisturizing, and your scalp and the tops of your feet need sun protection.
- Touch your face less and wash your hands more! Don’t get too surgical on yourself. It’s very tempting to pick, poke, squeeze, and scratch in front of the mirror. But the more you traumatize the skin, the greater your risk of scarring. Apply treatment products and let them work.
- Keep your makeup clean. Replace the sponges in your compact on a regular basis. Now and then, toss the whole works and start fresh — the average shelf life for cosmetics is 6 to 12 months. Don’t buy products so expensive that you’ll be heartbroken if you have to throw them away.
- Exercise moderation. More is not always better. Moisturizer, for example, is the most overused product in America. We’ve been bamboozled by cosmetic companies into thinking every square inch of our body has to be slathered. And it’s simply not true. Exfoliators are another thing to be careful with. Used too often, they overacidify and irritate your skin.
- Beware of counter girls. If it were up to them, you’d be in the bathroom for two and a half hours each morning — putting 80 layers on your face. Keep your regimen simple. And when you do add a new product, do it gradually so your skin has time to adjust. Each skincare or makeup product has an average of 20 to 40 ingredients — you’re introducing 20 to 40 potential allergens to your face every time you try something new.

What I’m loving right now….Supernatural Botanicals Pure Orange Bath and Shower Sea Salts. Formulated with European Spa Salts, Orange Peel, and Orange Essential Oil, this ultra-indulgent sea salt exfoliates skin and makes it radiate. To keep tops of hands from looking parched and dry, use a handful of salts while washing hands to gently exfolate skin on the hands.

Supernatural Botanicals Pure Orange Bath and Shower Sea Salts are made from European spa salt, harvested from the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The European spa salt is evaporated to a sparkling white by the sun and ocean air. Bursting with fresh orange aroma. Formulated with Pure Orange Essential Oils and Orange Peel. Citrus aromatherapy stimulates the mind and reinvigorates the mood.
For use in the shower: Combine Sea Salts with body oil or shower gel, and buff skin in a circular motion. For use in the bath: Pour about a half cup of Sea Salts under running bath water.

Easy At Home Spa Treatment
Make this a habit! Hot towels placed on the face and chest are one of the easiest ways to feel ultra relaxed and ultra zen. This is an easy spa treatment that can be created at home for everyday use. You can elevate the experience with aromatherapeutic benefits by applying a few drops of essential oil to the towel. Lavender’s aromatherapy benefits are to calm and relax the mind and body. A citrus essential oil will produce a cheerful mood and enliven the spirit.
Simply saturate a white hand towel with water. Wring excess water from the towel. Place towel in the microwave in 30 second intervals, up to two minutes. Be sure not to get the towel too hot and burn your skin. Place several drops of essential oils (optional) directly to hot towel. The heat will instantly release the essential oil’s therapeutic benefits. Place hot towels on face, (leave a breathe hold) and upper chest.
Lie down and relax for 10-15 minutes with the towels draping your face and chest. Feel free to re-microwave your towel(s) if it becomes too cool.
Make deep relaxation with aromatherapy a habit. It relaxes not only the body, but also the mind. It’s a perfect way to decompress at the end of the day. It’s also super beneficial for the skin, opening up pores, allowing the skin to breathe.
This is a great at home spa treatment that can be done every day, and cost you absolutely nothing. Love that! Try this today!

Make Better ChoicesWant to take a greener approach to your skincare products? Instead of using Mineral Oil, a cheap, heavy moisturizer that can plug up your pores and causes breakouts, use products that contain Beeswax. Beeswax has the same hydrating properties as mineral oil without potential buildup.
For a moisturizing body butter that contains Beeswax, check out Supernatural Botanicals Body Butters.

Green Tea TonerTry this recipe to decrease puffiness and tightens pores. Safe for all skin types.
4 tsp loose green tea leaf (Tip: Cut open 2 tea bags if you don’t have loose leaves)
1 cup boiling mineral water
Boil the water and steep tea bags for at least 10 minutes to make concentrated tea. Wait for the tea to cool, then pour it into a small spritzer bottle and refrigerate. Spray toner directly on clean, just-washed skin and pat it in (or apply it with a clean cotton ball). Follow with moisturizer. (Tip: To soothe acne on normal to oily skin types, add 1/2 cup of witch hazel and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice.)

Why wait for tomorrow when you can do this today! Here are five things you can do, today, to make your skin look better tomorrow. As I’ve said a million times, the only way to make something a habit is to do it……and do it…..and do it. That’s how good solid habits are formed. And isn’t looking sensational worth it?
Try these habit-forming ideas today!
Drink as much water as possible! It rids the body and skin of toxins and keeps your skin looking hydrated and healthy.
Make the effort to eat better. Start eating things that make you radiant (think veggies and greens) and less of things that make you unattractive (fast food and double lattes!) Choose from super-foods, like blueberries that contains mega antioxidants.
Start working out! There’s so many benefits to exercise. Make sure to break a sweat at least once a day. Sweating off toxins, as nasty as it sounds, is a very, very good thing for your skin. Hit the steam room or sauna as much as possible.
Make sure you are washing your face once or twice a day (definitely before bed) to remove makeup and the day’s grime, helping to prevent breakouts. It gives your skin a chance to breathe while your body is in a restorative state (sleep.) Plus, it saves your expensive pillow cases from getting lipstick on them.
Use a great moisturizer at least once a day. Preferably before applying makeup in the a.m., and after taking makeup off in the evening. It helps to hydrate the skin, preventing dull, dry looking skin.
These are five things you can do today to look hot tomorrow! It’s so worth it!
