Rounding third and heading for home, the Smart Talk Connected Conversations finished it’s fourth in a five part series for 2011 with Alison Levine in Cincinnati last evening.  Alison was the Team Captain of the 1st American Women’s Everest Expedition and Groundbreaking Polar Adventurer; Alison Levine is no stranger to risk-taking.  She’s survived sub-zero temperatures, hurricane-force winds, sudden avalanches, and a career on Wall Street.  Levine was born with a life-threatening heart condition that precluded most demanding physical activities.  After her initial diagnosis she had surgery that changed her life – and climbing stairs soon gave way to climbing mountains.  To learn more about Alison, check out her website, www.AlisonLevine.com

As always, Smart Talk hosts another amazing women with yet another amazing journey.  Don’t miss the last speaker in the series, Ms. Della Reese.  She will be at the Aronoff in Cincinnati on May 17th.  For ticket information, see here.

We had a great time with Soledad O’Brien last night with Smart Talk Connected Conversations in Cincinnati.

The one thing we all took away from Soledad was that she’s one smart cookie.  She is, after all, a Harvard graduate.  Soledad said the inspiration for her to go to Harvard was that all five of her siblings went to Harvard (kudos to the elder O’Briens).   She went on to say that her sister , whom she said was no scholar, just a good student, advised her every step of the way while Soledad was in high school.

At heart, though, Soledad is a journalist and it shines through every time she speaks.  Soledad was on the scene in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti.  She did a great job of communicating the intricate details of such massive devastation.  If journalism is your thing, look to Soledad as one of your mentors.

Meditation.  It’s a beautiful thing.  Now hang on, don’t grab your latte and go running for the door just yet.

Meditation, perhaps to your surprise, is not only reserved for the deep-thinking, tree-hugging, granola-eating individuals of the world.  And those of us who practice meditation regularly, we have all been on that side of the fence at one point, too.  Many of us have thought it was too new-agey or down right flaky, that is, until we tried it.

Meditation can be simply sitting in a quiet room, concentrating on your breath slowly in and out, for no longer than a minute.  Yes, even one minute can bring great benefits to your life.  Consider the wonderful benefits below, then contemplate at least one minute of time just for yourself today.  After all, you’ll never know until you try..so dig right into the concept of taking a minute of  “me” time and start to notice how you feel.  Who knows, you just might have a craving for granola afterward!

The Trump Card
Posted on January 14th, 2011 at 1:24 PM by Supernatural Botanicals

If there’s one thing Ivanka Trump knows, it’s business.  Ivanka’s book, The Trump Card, is far more than stories from a spoiled little rich girl.  Her parents have groomed her into the successful businesswoman she is today.

Surprisingly far more than a story of nepotism at its finest, Ivanka is a credentialed and intelligent woman following in her father, Donald Trump’s, footsteps.

Ivanka, a former runway model, also has an eye for stunning business attire as well.  She is a perfect balance of business meets femininity.  If you want to emulate a businesswoman with fabulous style…Ivanka’s your girl.

“So the evolving of consciousness is really what I’m about but I’m not telling people that’s what it is. All of us are here to become more of who we are, of who you really were born to be. Every single one of us in this room has that. That is how we are all equal, because I was born to be who the creator intended, whether you believe in the creator or not. Whatever you believe put you here, you were born to perform the highest expression of that coming. That is my goal as my personal self and it is also my goal to help other people see that in themselves. I fully understand that this platform that I have been given is a gift.”

Do top earners in America enjoy a piece of chocolate cake as much as you do?  Researchers don’t believe so.  They found that the more people earn, the harder it was to enjoy life’s little pleasures, like a slice of chocolate cake or a beautiful sunset.  Researchers found that the more you earn, you have greater access to expensive experiences that make you happy, so you don’t notice the simple pleasures in life.  No matter what tax bracket you are in, you are missing the point of life if you don’t enjoy all that life offers…including sunny days and dinner with friends.
