Have you seen the Linen Sprays at Supernatural Botanicals lately?

Why use a linen spray?  Linen sprays provide not only aromatherapy for the scent of your room, but also for your clothes, your bed linens, your furniture, and even your car seats if you have cloth car seats.

Instead of throwing your clothes into the laundry, go green, skip the laundry cycle and simply spray them down with our Fabric Softener Fresh Linen Spray. Not only will this help to release the wrinkles out of your clothes, but it gives them an instantly fresh scent as if they were just pulled from the dryer.

Want to sleep better?  Use our Lavender Water to spray your sheets before slipping into them.  Lavender has aromatherapeutic properties that help to relax and calm the mind.

Shapewear is certainly enjoying its time in the spotlight these days.

Shapewear is a different name for a girdle, the same kind of undergarment your mom and grandma wore.  It’s the elastic garment that cinches in  your body girth to give you a skinnier appearance, albeit, “about to pop” and “I can’t breathe” appearance.

Somehow, women seem to be embracing the new-school girdle and seem to be okay with it, as evidenced by its multimillion dollar sales in the US last year…although I can’t think of one man who would be okay with this look, with one exception, (and that exception being Dr. Rey).

Wouldn’t getting into shape be far more rewarding than squeezing your back fat or thighs into an apparatus that literally almost squeezes the breath out of you?  Didn’t Rob Lowe’s character in St. Elmo’s Fire (as he openly laughed at Mare Winningham’s character for wearing a girdle) steer you clear of even the consideration of wearing a girdle, er, shapewear?

Does the thought of having to eventually take your dress off for your significant other, or even worse, God-forbid, emergency medical staff, make you want to hit the treadmill instead of face the wrath of public humiliation?

Or does it?  The upside, after all, is having an appearance that divulges no bulges or flaws.  And if we look good on the outside of the dress, is that good enough for us to strap ourselves into elastic apparatus’ to conceal the real story?

What are your thoughts?  Shapewear…Love it or lose it?

Supernatural Botanicals Linen Sprays

It’s finally here….our Linen Sprays!  A little background information…If you know me, you know I’m the queen of fabric softener.  When I do laundry, I use three capfuls of softener because I just can’t get enough of that fresh scent.  But even with three capfuls of softener, the scent does fade within a day or two.  I like my sheets and clothes smelling fresh until I wash them again.  Out of that desire to have my linens and clothes smelling good all  the time came the creation of our Linen Sprays.

Great to use as an instant refreshner to linens and clothes.   Perfect as a room spray to eliminate odors.  Adds freshness to closets and drawers.  If you truly love the smell of fabric softener (like I do), you’ll adore the fresh spring scent of Fabric Softener Fresh Linen Spray.  Our Lavender Water Linen Spray  is a calm, relaxing scent, perfect for spraying on your sheets right before bedtime for a calm, aromatherapeutic restful sleep.

Check out what’s new at Supernatural Botanicals….you’ll love these Linen Sprays!

Maxi Dress

maxi-dress.jpg

The consensus on the newest trend, the maxi dress is…..He says, “no way!”   She says, “I love it!”  That seems to be the latest consensus from an unofficial poll I’ve been taking about the latest trend in women’s fashion, the long maxi dress.  From Rodeo Drive to your street, the maxi dress is making a fashion statement.  The question is, what is the statement?  Women seem to think the overall statement is cute and comfortable.  Men seem to think the overall statement is frumpy and unflattering.

A wildly popular trend now, the maxi dress is being worn by women who want to be cute and comfortable at the same time.  However, the negative input by the men may have you changing your mind….along with your dress.

Every male I had asked about this new trend gave a luke-warm response with, “it’s okay, but not form-fitting enough.”  Some even responded with “dresses like this need to be burned.”  Ironically, I couldn’t find one male response that said, “gorgeous, sexy, I love it.”

Women, on the other hand, simply loved the maxi dress.  Women find this dress to easily transition from casual to dressy.  The biggest response I received from women was “it looks so comfortable.”

What do you think about the maxi dress?  Love it or lose it?

collage-vintage-beautiful.bmp   Have you ever considered vintage?  I truly appreciate vintage…vintage linens, vintage dresses, vintage magazines, vintage jewelry, etc.  This vintage Vogue magazine reminds me of my senior year in high school.  In 1986, my home economics teacher had scads of vintage magazines around the room, magazines from the 70s.  I would pour over them and fall in love with the fashion and with the notion of being an independent woman with ultra style and class and dancing at Studio 54.  In 1986, I was quite certain that I’d move off to New York the next year to be a fashion designer.  I had no doubt that I’d make it.  I had planned on being a Rockette, you know, as a side career to support myself in New York…at least until my name was synonymous with Gloria Vanderbilt.

Not only would my home economics teacher let me day dream and share my vision of my oh so successful future, she encouraged it.  Never once did she question if I’d be a successful fashion designer, or even a Rockette, for that matter.  I think she liked seeing a student dream big and she supported it fully.  It was a very special time in life, filled with hope.

I applaud those who teach kids to dream big.  My teacher inspired me and made me feel I could do anything I wanted to do.  She made me believe in myself, and even let me turn in sketches of dresses for grades.  She taught me the beauty of vintage, taught me to appreciate beautiful old objects such as pressed napkins and gorgeous tablecloths, and made the 1950s housewife seem like someone I aspired to be…that along with the fashion designing career and Rockette gig on the side.

Discover vintage.  You may just fall in love with vintage style.  I did.

pashmina1.jpg   Colder weather is definitely here.  It arrived this week in Cincinnati.  But I’m excited about fall weather because it gives you the opportunity to be seriously fashionable.  Jackets, boots, sweaters, Pashmina scarves…..bring it on!  Back in June, I thought nothing was as good as a cute little flirty sun dress and strappy high heeled sandals, but I’m ready for fall fashion now.

I adore Pashmina Scarves.  They can dress up and outfit in a snap.  I think a lot of people are afraid of Pashmina scarves because they have no idea how to tie them.  Well, admittedly, it is a science.  Okay, not so much a science, but there is certainly skill involved, a technique, if you will.  Much in the way a man’s tie is somewhat of a science,  it’s all about the technique.

I’ve learned many ways to use these scarves to my fashion advantage.   Instead of trying to explain it, I found this great YouTube clip that demonstrates Pashmina tying perfectly along with some pictures of celebs sporting their Pashminas.   You can purchase these everywhere clothing is sold, from Saks Fifth Avenue to Ebay.  Look for and purchase the softest material you can find because they tend to touch your face a lot.  You want the softest material possible (and there are a lot of soft alternatives to cashmere if that’s not in your budget.)

Six.  I have six subscriptions to different magazines.  I also borrow at least 25 others per month from the library.  I’m really into periodicals because I love the constant surge of information.  I’m the kind who likes to know at least a little bit about everything that comes my way.  Beyond that, magazine advertising keeps you current on what’s hot.   Here are a few of my favorites.

prevention.jpg   Prevention magazine.  It was years ago I found an article in this magazine about Jorge Cruise’s exercise program.  It kick started my fitness into high gear, and I’ve never been the same.  In theory, this magazine is responsible for the size of my jeans today.  Thank you!!!   Great articles on health, fitness, diet, and overall well-being.

shape-magazine.jpg   Shape magazine.  Whether you workout or not, Shape magazine will get your mind going in the right direction.  Excellent health and fitness articles, trend-tracking, girly-slant.  Great stuff.

self-magazine.jpg   Self magazine.  I really love the random facts throughout this magazine.  Every issue has a section of “did you know” type of facts.  Very interesting.  Very motivating.  Much like Shape, but different features.  Both are equally great, in my opinion.

domino-magneisum.jpg   Domino magazine.  This magazine is sensory overload, a design-lovers dream.  Fantastic design ideas from interior to jewelry to clothing to beauty.  Retro-cool.  Excellent articles.  Girly-girl stamp of approval.

real-simple-magazine.jpg   Real Simple magazine.  Real Simple is about making life easier.  It’s like Martha, simplified.  Ways to make your life easier and more beautiful.  Fun how-to sections, great party ideas, current ads.
