How To Fix Jagged Cuticles
.
Diet is the single most important contributor to fingernail appearance. Like the hair and skin, fingernails require certain nutrients to thrive. More importantly, the nails are excellent indicators of your overall health since they show signs of deficiencies before they may be apparent elsewhere.
Nails are largely composed of a special kind of protein called keratin and need adequate supplies of dietary protein to stay strong. Some say that calcium is also essential for beautiful nails, although recent studies have questioned this. However, including it as part of a balanced diet offers other benefits like strong bones, so do not skimp on dairy foods.
Essential fatty acids like Omega-3, which is found in fish, will support nail growth, as will a diet rich in vitamins C, D, E, B-12, and A.
If your diet is lacking, it’s easy to meet these requirements by taking a multivitamin, which should also contain a day‘s supply of zinc, iron, and sulfur.
If you want stronger, longer and healthier nails, eat a healthy diet, take multivitamins, have regular manicures, and overall, be kinder and gentler to your nails.

Perfect ManicureTo prevent nail polish from bubbling, apply Witch Hazel with a cotton ball to the nails before applying polish. Allow polish to dry in between coats, and give nails a little extra time to dry before the clear coat of polish at the end.

Achieve Beautiful Fingernails
The fall and winter months can be torture on your skin and nails. You can reduce the amount of torture they endure, however, by proper care. One way to protect fingernails and keep them looking healthy is to apply a clear coat of polish to them. Even if you aren’t a fan of painted nails, applying a clear coat is more so for protection than beauty (although it can be pretty, too.) A clear coat of polish will lock in the natural moisture and protect the nails to make them stronger. It also gives you a more polished (pardon the pun) overall appearance. Be sure to moisturize hands often, making sure to rub lotion into your cuticles to keep them soft and moisturized. It’s as easy as that to have pretty fingernails.

Nail Soak
For brighter, whiter nails, soak fingertips in a mixture of gentle soapy water and lemon juice for 15 minutes each hand. This is not recommended if you have very sensitive skin…lemon juice can be acidic, but is a perfect nail brightener for normal skin. Gently scrub with a nail brush after soak, and rinse with warm water for a just from the spa look.

Use Protection
Now that temperatures are bitter cold for most parts of the country, we have to switch our focus into protection; protect your skin, your nails, and your hair.
Protect your skin: Lacking the sun’s exposure and the light of day for the most part, your skin needs some extra attention in the colder months. A good multivitamin is a great way to get your vitamin D, essential for healthy skin. If you don’t have at least 20 minutes of sun exposure on your skin each day, you need to be taking a multivitamin that contains the highest amount of vitamin D you can find. Moisturizing is also key. Keep lotion or a body butter on you at all times. Keep some at work. Keep some in the car. Keep some on your night stand. Moisturize as often as you can to avoid overtly dry, flaking skin. Drinking lots of water will keep your skin looking healthy as well. H2O puffs the skin back out and makes wrinkles less noticeable.
Protect your nails: Winter nails can look dirty and unkempt unless you are putting some time into them. The easiest and prettiest way to protect nails is to put polish on them. Polish protects the nails from the elements and keeps them from turning brittle. Even if you aren’t a fan of nail polish, you need to at least throw a clear coat on your nails to protect them. A great cuticle oil applied regularly will keep hang nails at bay. Keep in mind that nothing ruins a look faster than brittle nails that lack attention in the upkeep department.
Protect your hair: Hair, too, can really ruin your day if you’re not taking proper measures to take care of it. Don’t wash your hair everyday. Exposure to too many elements, such as chemicals in your shampoo or even exposure to hard water combined with the cold air can leave your hair frizzy, brittle, and unattractive. If possible, get your ends trimmed every other month. Also go for the extra conditioning with a deep conditioner or a hot oil treatment.
Take the time to protect your skin, nails, and hair or they’ll turn on you. Stay pretty and make the effort to protect.
